Hidden Treasure; City continues to upgrade, promote museum
Almost everybody in town knows where the old Southern Railway Depot is located. The gray building has been here since 1868. Despite commendable efforts made by the Piedmont Historical Society some people still do not know the building has been housing a museum since 1988. The city administration is working to change that. Less than a year ago, Mayor Charlie Fagan made an executive decision to put city employee Tommy Allison in charge of the facility and make it more accessible to the public.

City crews have plenty of work ahead
The city crews have a long list of things to accomplish this summer and another water line that broke last week added more for them to do.
A section of pipe located beneath North Fifth Avenue burst shortly before 7 p.m. last week and the area between Alabama Street and Highway 278 had to be shut off. Residents of Third, Fourth and Fifth Avenues were without water for most of the evening.  The water department employees had to dig up a large section of the road to make the repairs and replace a 10-foot section of pipe. The break also caused a section of the sidewalk in front of one house to be misplaced.
